Prescribed Halloween Viewing

Full disclosure, my urban fantasy novel, Caged, and the trilogy it kicks off, The V to Z Trilogy, include both vampires and zombies. It’s not a world filled with the supernatural, just vampires and zombies. So I thought, why not have a V to Z themed movie night? Or a Halloween movie night with Vampires AND Zombies.

As I prefer to scream with laughter more than terror, I thought why not a vampires and zombies screaming with laughter Halloween movie night? Still with me?

What I’m trying to say is, have I got a movie for you! Or really, two movies. I have two movies you need to watch if you are a fan of both vampires and zombies or if you are a fan of laughter.  If you’re a fan of horror comedy – you’re welcome.

Keeping on the V to Z theme, we’ll start with the vees – vampires.  Watch What We Do in the Shadows to laugh until you cry. One of the greatest vampire movies since “Nosferatu.” The greatest thing to come out of New Zealand since Flight of the Conchords. And hey, you might recognize some people if you watched Flight of the Conchords.  Watch the trailer here and if you laugh at all, do yourself a favor and watch the whole movie.  If you didn’t laugh, then I’m sorry but I just don’t get you.

When done with the vees, move on to the zees – zombies.  The first and best of the Cornetto Trilogy – Shaun of the Dead – is one of my favorite movies. I have watched it a million and one times to the point where I don’t even know I’m quoting it when I quoting it.  If you love it anywhere near as much as I do, watch it with the narration by writers Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright turned on. It’s fascinating.  And then rent or buy Spaced, the TV series that preceded it all.

If zombies and laughter are your thing, don’t miss Shaun of the Dead. If you are into the blood sucking variety of undead, go for What We Do in the Shadows.  Or, if you, like me, want it all, have a double feature. And enjoy.

Happy Halloween!
